We do love WGSN. We do recommend WGSN. We just cannot afford to offer it, especially when there is so much valuable trend content you can access free online.
Here is some “ancient history” about WGSN when they had 2,2oo clients. WGSN say they now have 36,000 clients.
1. Can you name the television program shown here?
Each fashion student at EPCC used to have a free subscription to Worth Global Style Network. The subscription made last season’s news available to enrolled students. WGSN decided to stop that service saying that it was important for students to have the very latest trend analysis and information.
The latest info is essential for all design, wholesale and retail companies. Students should search it out as well.
Students, however, can not only learn all the necessary uses of trend forecasting with last season’s forecasts but can also look at the past trend forecasts and determine if, how, when and where the trends did, in fact, become trends.
Of course, we know WGSN is hitting the mark. And we keep our eyes open for all the ways we can still use parts of the website. There are a number of ways.
Or watch this seminar, “Courting the Consumer ” – a WGSN & FGI Discussion hosted by Parsons. Part 1 of 8, all parts are accessible.
If being on location is the mood you desire, watch here. Also, clicking Watch on YouTube is a fantastic way to broaden your fashion experience and we can talk more about that in class.
By searching out and watching the WGSN video above dropped onto YouTube by giubrandao we found this next video. Spot some trends here. Simple fashion show used to good effect.
Fashion Experience – I Love Jeans – Pink Elephant Club
We still love “Spotting fashion trends according to WGSN” because
“WGSN doesn’t just look out the window and tell you it’s raining, but predicts the cultural climate weeks, months, even years in advance — so you can plan for the future.”
“The accuracy of our vision has been proven time and again. That’s why we have a 93% retention rate with the world’s leading brands.”
We agree. We do, however, start to wonder if all the “fashionable” world will start to look alike if all designers and retailers reference the same forecasting agency. There are other trend watch agencies. Look on the LinksList under the category Trend Watch.
We also feel that it is equally important to keep an eye on blogs, videos, social networking sites, and fashion networks. There is a reason that the world is watching and reading TrendHunter.
There are also free sources of trend inspiration from groups like Material World (a textile tradeshow group) and for students and designers we like the way the trending is shown in both artistic, mood evocative ways and with actual examples.

2. Can you name the vocalist entertaining us in this trend report?
And Material World offers this more mundane video that breaks down the trending colors. And speaking of color source trend information there is always Pantone.
No, really check out Pantone for a few minutes right now. Just click. Did you “find the music“?
