Fashion Pre-History All Over Again

It is almost funny how predictable we can be when we get to know ourselves.  We have always said that as people make less and less room for the fauna of this planet, the more we will worship the animals we have lost.  We believe this is at least one reason for the seemingly everlasting love of animal print in fashion.

A whole new reason to dread global warming.

We might surmise that as we get more and more tech-oriented, early human life on this planet will take on a nearly mystic sensibility.

We did not have to wait long for this trend to emerge.

Jean Paul Gaultier Fall 2008 (shown February 27, 2008) set the stride down the long path to our ancient past.  Live Journal lets us into that world of our cave days with wonderful pictures of the collection.  Trendhunter calls it Savage Style.  Catch the whole runway show on YouTube, Jean Paul Gaultier Fall/Winter 2008.

And if the garments are not enough to make you howl with glee, listen to the primordial drum beats, the tongue-in-cheek Peter and the Wolf, Michael Jackson’s Thriller ochestrated with roaring animals… or Tina Turner’s earthy sound.

We have already heard talk around here about people lusting after those big furry hats… and we live in the desert southwest.  Imagine the buzz in the cold, frozen north.

Perchance those computer screens are getting to us.  Everything old is new again.  Can you dig it?  … as Vincent Price laughs and laughs….

I feel over the past three years fashion has definitely taken this “blast from the past” direction and has shown more interest in history. More and more designers get their inspiration not necessarly from the pre historic ages but more from 1950’s, 60’s, 70’s, etc.

  3. Nothing wrong with a little primal and tribal. I love the furs!
